Milan city guide and tourist informationMilan was founded by the Romans in 222 a.D. under the name of Mediolanum and it soon became an important junction for the trade courses. Afterwards it was conquered by the Goths and the Longobards and it became the seat of several powerful dinasties, such as the Viscontis and the Sforzas, that realised lots of important artistic and architectural works.
Nowadays Milan is the economic capital of Italy, it is the seat of the Stock Exchange and it is also the fashion capital.
