Paris city guide and tourist informationAll tourists in the world agree on saying that Paris is one of the best cities in the world.
Paris is the capital of France and it is divided by the Seine in two parts: the famous Rive Gauche and Rive Droite and both parts are full of interesting monuments and charming places, all in a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Paris has various aspects: you can find some Parisians drinking some wine in a smart café, lots of colourful stalls along the river, lots of fashion boutiques, but it is also the city of culture and painting. Last but not least, Paris is full of history and monuments.
Paris was probably founded by the Gauls: it was called Lutéce and originally it was just a small town on the left bank of the Seine. After continual threat of barbaric invasion the central nucleus was moved in the Ile-de-la-Cité and afterwards it began to spread on the banks of the river.
In 987 Paris became the capital city and since then its history was full of important dinasties and figures for the world history, that made Paris to be the protagonist during the reign of Louis XIV (the Sun King) and the French Revolution.
Nowadays Paris is one of the most important cities among the european capital cities and it is a cosmopolitan city with several different faces. |
