Marsala, after the city of Trapani, is the second major city in the Province of Trapani on the island/autonomous region of Sicily.
It is best known for its famous wine Marsala which was "discovered" in 1733 by the English trader John Woodhouse.
The Saracens named this city "Marsala" which derives from the Arab "Marsa Allah" (Port of Allah).
