I am looking for a warm and cheap European city for a stopover in
March. (In other words, likes of Oslo, Paris, or Zurich have to wait
for a future visit! Cities like Cairo are too diffucult to accommodate
within reasonable airfare.)

Among Athens, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, etc, which one meets the bill
best for being warm, cheap, and fun? (I don't know these cities, just
listing them for their southern location.)

Barcelona cheaper than Rome, warmer and funnier than Madrid.

Why not you try Madrid?! Madrid is a capital city in Spain and well known for its festivals, nightlife and foods!

Madrid is a fantastic place to visit. The mix of old world and modern in the city makes it such a unique city. We've been back a few times now and have always been able to find new things to do.
