Campi Flegrei: Naples city guide The name "Campi Flegrei" literally means "Burning fields" and it is the name of a big area going from the Sebeto river to the Miseno Cape and Cuma.
It is an area of volcanic origin, made of fruitful hills covered by vegetation, small lakes, areas of geological interest (such as the Solfatara in Pozzuoli), picturesque cliffs and creeks.
In these places the Romans built several thermal and holiday resorts (such as Agnano and Baia) and big monuments, such as the Flavian Amphiteatre in Pozzuoli.
