Plebiscito Square: Naples city guide The big rectangular square at the foot of Echia mountain (also called Pizzofalcone) is closed on the occidental side by a beautiful semi-elliptical arcade with a Doric colonnade that surrounds the solemn main front of the S.Francis of Paula'basilica. In front of the basilica there are two equestrian statue representing Ferdinand the Ist (the one who ordered the church) and Charles the IIIrd of Bourbon.
At the end of the north-side of the square you can see the Prefecture Palace, while on the south-side there is Salerno Palace. The imposing mass of the Royal Palace is situated on the opposite side of the arcade.
At the back of the square the characteristic quarter of Pizzofalcone begins, a quarter that developed between the XVI and the XVII century.
